Importance of self education, self directed learning and self study

Self education refers to self directed learning. The knowledge you have gathered and learned in schools are insufficient for you to handle your adult life or make major changes to your financial and personal growth.

Almost everyone goes through the same conventional learning process but many people who stood out from the majority are autodidacts. They went through self study and self organized learning.

Life itself is like a school but it does not provide any learning instruction. It presents to you people and situations for you to form your own understanding according to your beliefs. Many times, it's like a laboratory where you experiment and make many trials and errors before you finally find the solution. If you pay attention, observe and contemplate, you speed up your self learning process.

Self education is a continuous learning process and you have to learn, unlearn and relearn to get things right.

"Formal education will make you a living; self education will make you a fortune." - Jim Rohn

Engage with others.

Other people are your teachers. Even children can teach you something of value. You learn by observing the outward behaviors, listening to their words and watching the actions that they take. You can then scan through the information, reflect on them and apply on yourself.

Engaging with others also allow you to see who you are or what you have within you because you tend to attract people who are similar. If you don't like something in the person, you most likely are having the same pattern.

Remain curious and ask lots of questions.

You can learn a lot more by being curious and asking questions. Asking yourself and others is a great way to understand. The answers you obtain can overcome your state of confusion and indecision.

You will also benefit because other people's opinions can shift your thoughts about something that you have subconsciously accepted without questioning their validity.

Engage in reading.

You should continue to read even after you leave school. Reading broadens your horizon, expands your knowledge and shifts your thinking patterns. Changing your thinking brings changes to your life.

You see your world based on your beliefs and perceptions. If you expect something better to happen in your life, you should engage yourself in reading and learning something of value every day. They provide ideas that to help you overcome obstacles and solve your problems.

Don't allow your lack of vocabulary or word knowledge to deter you from reading. Increase your vocabulary using the Visual Thesaurus.

Take more actions.

When you act upon your knowledge, you get results. Whatever you do continuously becomes a habit and you develop the skills. Every little thing you do teaches you something and moves you toward your goals.

You might not succeed the first time you try something and you might get frustrated if you keep making mistakes. But these errors are feedbacks. If you study them and take advantage of them, you will get your expected result or something better than that.

Learning from the experts.

Many self taught people who have excelled have written about their accomplishments. If they didn't, you can read their biographies. You can get hold of their knowledge and experiences that are available at the library, bookstores and websites. There are also audio and video programs available.

Click here for a list of self help books and programs

Become your own teacher.

You are your best friend and your best teacher. Become your own observer of your thoughts, emotions and actions. You will make mistakes. This is a part of self education. But they are invaluable lessons.

Once you have made a conviction to become self-taught, you don't have to worry much about sticking to the disciplines in your self regulated learning process. Your desire to achieve your goal will drive you to learn and take the necessary action steps.

Becoming an autodidact is one of the best experiences in life. It gives a profound personal satisfaction. And you will improve your self confidence and your self esteem.

Anger management techniques, techniques on anger control, tips on managing and controlling anger

Anger management is the technique or method in anger control. If you find yourself losing your temper easily and getting in a rage or violent outburst, you do need to learn how to control and deal with anger.

There are a few techniques in controlling anger. One of them is to do it yourself by learning to identify the causes of your anger and using relaxation techniques like hypnosis. If you find it difficult to recognize the triggers and make a change, you can instead see a mental health counselor or psychologist. The other option is to attend classes or courses individually, with your spouse or in a group.

"Anger always comes from frustrated expectations." - Elliott Larson

You must really want to change.

You must really want and have the desire to change and to gain control over your emotion. If you do it because someone tells you to do so and you resent the idea, you might have to put in a lot of work. You might also sabotage yourself to prove that anger management doesn't work.

Recognize and identify.

Identify the triggers that make you angry. There's probably one underlying reason. Is it a deep-seated frustration about something or someone? Are you feeling guilty or remorseful? If you suppress your real emotions, you will tend to express it in a different manner, and in this case, an outburst over minor issues. It's best that you determine what it is and acknowledge it so that you can find the right solution.

Catch yourself when you feel irritated and annoyed.

It's hard initially to stop and pause when you are irritated. What you can do is tell yourself that you will become aware whenever you sense that you are feeling upset, and to pause and take a few deep breath. It is better that you catch yourself before your annoyance turn into a rage.

At this point of time when you pause, recognize what it was that triggered the change in your state of mind. Then ask yourself this question, "What do I want to feel right now?" This question will help you discover what it is that you really want to feel and thus change your focus of attention.

Use alternative ways to express your emotions.

Before you get out of control, change your physiology. Go out and take a walk. It is highly recommended that you start using exercise as a way to keep your emotions under control. Physical activities like running, jogging, swimming and gardening produce positive and healthy effects on your body and mind. Make it a new habit and lifestyle and you'll improve your life emotionally, psychologically, mentally and socially.

Try relaxation techniques.

Yoga is one of the best relaxation techniques. It helps you calm your mind through controlled breathing, ability to focus inwards and promotes total mental and physical well being. Another tool that helps with anger management is using hypnosis. You don't have to see a hypnotist because there is hypnosis downloads available and you can listen to the recording at the comfort of your home.

Use visualization and positive affirmations.

At the end of the day before you sleep, make mental pictures of a different you. See yourself as someone who is calm and poised, happy and enjoying life. At the same time, affirm to yourself that you choose to feel joy and that you allow other people to be who they are and what they want to be, have and do.

Set out your intention or goal each morning.

Upon waking up in the morning, set out an intention that you want to have control over your emotions and to attract situations and people that bring out your best self. Remind yourself that you have full control of your thoughts and your life.

Journal it.

One of the ways to monitor your emotions and see your progress or lack of it is to journal it at the end of the day. If it's convenient, carry a small note book and jot down each time you are aware of what you are feeling or doing. Take note of the following:

How many times did you catch yourself getting angry? Who or what triggered your emotions? What was your reaction each time? How many times did you manage to refocus and change your state of mind? What did you do to make the change? Which anger management technique works best for you?

When you write them down and monitor, it enables you to see your approach, attitude, thoughts and feelings. And you'll notice what works and what you should avoid.

The Pledge: Your Master Plan for an Abundant Life (Agora Series)An actionable guide for quickly improving one's wealth, personal development, and happiness

Successful people don't sit around waiting for everything to be "100%" right or to be "absolutely sure" they will succeed. Now that the movement is in full swing, Buckingham's new book answers the ultimate question: How can you actually apply your strengths for maximum success at work?

Research data show that most people do not come close to making full use of their assets at work -- in fact, only 17 percent of the workforce believe they use all of their strengths on the job. Go Put Your Strengths to Work aims to change that through a six-step, six-week experience that will reveal the hidden dimensions of your strengths. Buckingham shows you how to seize control of your assets and rewrite your job description under the nose of your boss. You will learn:

• How to use the four telltale signs to identify your strengths.

• The simple steps you can take each week to push your time at work toward those activities that strengthen you and away from those that don't.

• How to talk to your boss and your colleagues about your strengths without sounding like you're bragging and about your weaknesses without sounding like you're whining.

Depression self help, signs and symptoms of anxiety, tips for depressed people

depression-buster

Depression is a state of mind. It could range from being depressed mildly and having mood disorders to a major mental illness.

A depressed person is stuck in her inner world, where the focus is on the negative. There is a lack of enthusiasm to take any kind of action. She feels gloomy, miserable and inadequate. Some of the causes of the despair are old traumas, tragedies or hurt from the past. Replaying memories of bygone age, usually unconsciously, overwhelms and make her feel hopeless and despondent.

A depressive personality may have originated from lack of parental support. She could have been brought up in an abusive upbringing. When the hurt and anger from childhood is brought into the adult or daily life and not being able to let them go, she will end up hurting herself. Another possible cause is when a person is going through or has gone through a violent or abusive relationship.

Self-injury, self-harming or suicidal thoughts Eating disorders Withdrawn and anti social character Fatigue and lack of energy Panic attacks or paranoid Sadness and despair Very low self image and self esteem Rage and uncontrolled anger Numbness and blank Feeling guilty Feeling hopeless and helpless Irrational fears

Acknowledge that you have a choice.

If you are feeling discouraged or useless, you can actually heal yourself faster if you accept that you have a choice. You can, if you want to, unlearn all the habits of thoughts that you have gathered. Almost everyone has gone through some setbacks or harsh experiences in the course of their lives but many are able to manage and change their mental conditioning because they know that they can choose.

It takes determination.

Antidepressant drugs do not cure the feelings of discouragement, sadness or anxiety. It takes determination and a resolve to change and grow personally. It takes courage to change the way you see things from the negative to an optimistic point of view. You must to want to get rid of that awful, sad and depressed feeling.

Learn to like yourself better.

You have to regain your self worth and discard the feelings of helplessness by altering your lifestyle even in the simplest way. Talk to yourself better. Change the way you have perceived and justified your setbacks.

Develop the skills to enhance your image. Take action to make things happen. Inactivity causes more depression. Lack of action causes lethargy and put you in a state of stupor and will affect your drive to overcome even the smallest obstacle and barrier.

Use your brain wisely.

Feeling discouraged and dejected has to do with depressive mental pictures. Your brain is a tool you can use at you will. Visualize new things and a realistic self image. See yourself taking over your depression and living a fuller life. If you give it the right instruction and direction, it will edit and manipulate your disturbing thoughts. And your depressive thoughts affect your emotions.

Expect the best outcome.

If you expect bad things to happen, it will tend to manifest. So expect the best from your daily experience. And if things do not turn out as you have expected, accept the responsibility that you may not have acquired the necessary skill or made sufficient preparation. Refuse to mistake it as a permanent disability or failure and cause you to feel depressed.

Connect with others.

Withdrawal from people will further cause a feeling of loneliness and abandonment. It will affect you personally and socially. The more you withdraw from society, the more you will feel empty and unloved. Talk to someone about your problems or if you feel uncomfortable, listen to others. Get emotional support and support others.

Create a bond with animals.

Keep a pet. Take a walk with your dog or stroke your cat. Go horse riding.

Go for a massage or hug and cuddle someone.

Massaging, cuddling or hugging is therapeutic. A massage also heals fatigue that is the outcome of being depressed.

Exercise your muscles.

Regular exercises and workouts lead to your wellness. Playing games that involve kicking or hitting will help you release your anger.

Eat right and take herbal supplements

Some foods may cause you to feel more depressed. And instead of taking antidepressant tablets, try natural herbal remedies. St John's Wort, lemon balm, Kava and Ginkgo are some helpful herbs to help you calm down.

Laugh.

Bring humor into your life and to get rid of your numbness and blankness caused by your depressing state. Watch hilarious movies or join friends who can make you laugh and bring some flow back into your life.

Release your anger and hurt.

tryitoneverythingbook

Uncover inner hurt and anger and release them from your system. Releasing will help you identify the mistaken association from your trauma and tragedies. There are various therapies and techniques available for releasing ranging from sound therapy to light therapy, guided imagery, emotional freedom technique or the tapping solution, deep meditation and self-hypnosis.

Seek professional help.

If you think that your depression in beyond control, seek professional help.

Whatever has happened cannot be changed. Your future is in your hands and it is up to you to make it or break it. Take responsibility for your life ahead. You can help yourself overcome depression. Refuse to poison it further with pessimism and melancholy.

Although curiosity is a natural characteristic of humans, many adults let their inquisitive mind and desire to know more about how to make life improvement pass.

How to be Honest with Yourself.

Be honest and frank with yourself. Is everything working well in your life? Or are you struggling to make it work? How is life treating you and how are you treating it?

Accepting, Receiving and Giving Feedback

Getting positive or negative feedback is useful information. It's one of the ways to measure your performance or functions and the effectiveness of your communication, interaction or undertaking.

Ignorance is not Bliss

Ignorance is one of the reasons why people make silly mistakes, overlooked opportunities, are easily deceived or remain "in the dark".

Your Interpretation on Life

What do you think shape your interpretation about life, relationships, money, your personality or whatever else that exists around you?

The Power of the Human Will

The human will is an unseen force. It is the inner drive or purpose within a person that makes her exert in spite of the odds against her.

How to Use Writing to Heal

Self-help guide to writing and putting your thoughts on paper. Writing helps you let go of the emotions that you've been keeping for so long.

How to Develop Personal Mastery

Having personal mastery or self mastery means possessing full command or complete control of one's life.

How to Cultivate an Optimistic Attitude

Optimistic versus pessimistic. An optimistic person sees the glass as half full but also accepts that it's half empty.

"You feel you have to help yourself to grow. You develop the attitude that if you work hard you can have a better life, you don't expect someone to help you. But if you give 70%, you'll get 70% results. If you want to do well, you have to give 100% - or even more." - Lee Lai Shan

How to organize your life, declutter and put your personal life in order

Why you need to organize your life and declutter, at home and at work, is so that you can think and see clearly and become more efficient. When there is clutter, there is chaos and a great amount of stress.

When everything is in its place, you can put your personal life in order. You can then set your priorities on the many tasks you have to do in a day and at the same time take care of the important people in your life.

Here are several reasons for the mess, untidiness and disorder in people's homes, at work and with their finances.

Having a lackadaisical attitude Lack of discipline Procrastination Laziness or inaction Indecision Lack the drive to act and unmotivated Due to upbringing in a disorganized household

Sort it out.

getorganized

Look around you for what needs immediate attention. If your finances are in a mess, if you have unsettled bills, most likely your life is too. If your car and your home are in bedlam, it's probable that your relationships and your work life are also in disarray. One thing leads to another.

The same goes with your thinking. Take a look at what you've been telling yourself. If you keep saying and accepting that it doesn't matter to live in a chaotic manner, then you have yourself to blame for the unpleasant things that show up in your life. If you don't sort it out, you'll continue to feel out of sort.

Organize it.

Break down your tasks to smaller chunks. Then create a proper system or segments in place for each area. Do one thing at a time, the most important and obvious one first. Put things in their allotted places. It will make your life easier when you know where to look for things when you need them.

Throw, give away or sell those things that you have not touched, used or bothered with, that have been lying around. Mess starts off when you pile up things and wait for the so called right moment or situation to do something about them.

"Bottom line is, if you do not use it or need it, it's clutter, and it needs to go." - Charisse Ward

Continue with the discipline.

Once you get organized, make it a habit. Set your own rules and abide by them. Don't put off what you are supposed to do. Do what you must do even if you don't feel like doing it. Soon it will become easy for you and you'll begin to value your orderly lifestyle.

Use your imagination or creativity.

Some of you complain of not having enough space in your home to store your household items. The easiest solution is to find a bigger room. But it is not the best, if you can't afford it, or the only solution.

Use your creativity to solve your storage problem in a low cost but well-organized way. If you can't think of any, you can find ideas from magazines, the internet and also other people's homes. Visit IKEA and you'll discover lots of ideas on storage options.

Get the motivation.

There are people who would like to live in an orderly manner but don't have the motivation to tidy up and clear their desks, the closets, their personal files, etc. The lack of motivation is due to not having enough reasons. They don't see the benefits or rewards. They visualize more or the drudgery of having to go through the routines.

If you are one of these people, what you can do is just switch the way you are seeing things. Create enough reasons to want to organize your life. One of the benefits is gaining self control.

Health tips, wellness and fitness articles and healthy living tips

A sound physical and mental health is the state of being free from illness or sickness in the body and the mind. When you are free from physical and emotional aches and pains, you are able to function at your best.

The majority of people who suffer from all kinds of illness created their unhealthy conditions. They neglected to watch their diet and eat well, exercise, reduce their stress level and manage their emotions. They have bad habits like smoking and excessive drinking. This negligence results in major afflictions like heart disease and cancer.

heartbeat

Taking control of your wellness is of utmost importance because your body and mind are your most valuable assets and determines your wellbeing. You can create a healthy lifestyle by making conscious choices. Taking control of your health will result in more energy, mental alertness, enthusiasm, and creativity.

"For most of us, health will depend not on who we are, but on how we live. The body you have at 40, 60 or 80 is the body you deserve, the body that reflects your behavior." - Dr Harvey Simon

Eat right and get adequate nutrition.

Getting proper and adequate nutrition is important. Your body requires fresh food and lots of water. Fresh food, vegetables and fruits provide nutrients, enzymes and are water rich. They act as your body-cleansing agent to eliminate waste.

Other than consuming lots of water rich food, eat a healthy combination of food to help you with your digestive system. Too little water rich food, having too much food consisting of carbohydrates, proteins and high fat food and consuming beyond moderation is among the causes of weight problem and low energy.

If you are dieting or working on weight gain or weight loss plans, watch your nutritional intake so that it will not give you an adverse effect.

Exercise.

Aerobic exercise and other forms of moderate to vigorous body movements improve physical fitness and the soundness of the mind. Your brain and other internal organs will function effectively when you choose to engage your body in activity. Regular and organized exercise like walking briskly or gardening affects your brain mechanism.

Activities involving cardiovascular fitness help you avoid depression and other mood and personality disorders and enhance your wellness. Having regular exercise outdoors provides you with sufficient sunlight and plenty of fresh air.

Rest and relax.

Make it a daily habit to sit quietly and relax your body and feel calm inside. Sufficient rest includes getting sound sleep. It helps you reduce stress and allows your body to renew. Regardless of your time pressures, you need to take a break and practice the habit of making your own leisure time for rest and recreation.

Manage your emotions.

Handling your emotions promotes good mental wellbeing. Women who are going through menopause may experience mood swings due to sleep disturbance caused by hot flashes.

Negative emotions will affect your thinking and show up in the form of illness and ailments. The ability to manage your emotions will allow you to maintain a positive self image and esteem yourself as worthy. Your optimism and physical vitality will soar and allow you to grow in your relationships and career. Suppressing your emotions worsens illness and disease in mind and body. Releasing those feelings helps you improve your well being.

Practice correct breathing.

Focusing your attention on your breathing quiets your mind. A quiet mind permits creativity and helps in the healing process from stress and other disturbing thoughts. Refined slow breathing promotes a complete balance between your body and mind and allows you to focus within, relax and contemplate.

Breathing affects your emotions. Rapid heart rate causes muscle tension and high level of stress and is hazardous. Practicing simple breathing exercise three times a day will relax your mind and influence your body to function effectively.

Live a healthy lifestyle and practice good and clean habits.

Creating quality relationships and having worthy goals to live for help you become robust and wise. Living with good morals and behaviors that are aligned to your personal values can enrich your mind, body and spirit.

Make it a habit to emphasize on your personal hygiene. Cultivate habits that encourage you to avoid infections and improve your general well being. Avoid excessive toxic food and drinks like alcohol and coffee that can affect your wellness. Stay away from cigarettes. Quit if you are indulging on that habit. Smoking shortens life expectancy.

6 Tips You Can Adopt For Self Improvement and Personal Growth

We all are gripped with fear, insecurities, inhibitions, and many more negative feelings, which pull us down while climbing the ladder of personal and professional success. How often do we hear someone say, "Wish I was like him or her". If you have been lately passing through this stage of 'I am a nobody', then it is time that you chuck it all and go for a much needed self improvement.

In modern times, when worldliness, consumerism, and materialism govern our thoughts and desires, we often tend to neglect the higher realities of life. Rather than peeping deep into ourselves, we keep comparing us to others, who are relatively more successful. But as the saying goes, 'grass is always greener on the other side'. The truth is that even a multi-million Hollywood star has his or her own set of insecurities, inhibitions, and dilemmas.

Stop sulking and saying that I wish I had a bigger car, or I had a body like her, or wish my child too won the competition. Self-improvement is not about all these things. It is all about finding the inner belief, peace, happiness, and contentment

There are certain spheres in your life, which if you take care of, will automatically lead to self improvement.

First of all, maintain a healthy lifestyle that suits yourself. Live a life of your dreams and desires, and stop compromising at every step in life for the fear of losing. Give it a shot and you will see that it rarely misfires.
Maintain a good health. Eat good food, sleep early at night, exercise everyday, go for a swim, and take that occasional vacation. A good body empowers a good mind.
Build a strong mind. A strong mind can overcome the stiffest challenge in life. Try to gain more and more knowledge via reading, watching movies. Journey to distant places, meet new people and learn to live your life to the fullest.
Earn lot of money. Though this is easier said than done, with the right mix strategy with hard work, there is nothing that you cannot achieve. This is an important part of self improvement.
Spiritual Bliss. It is always advisable to raise your conscience level and achieve the inner peace within.
Maintain healthy relationships. Love your loved ones. Keep a healthy relationship with everyone. It is a basic step in self improvement.

So, just enjoy your life. Chase away your negative energies by going for a rigorous self improvement drive.

What are you afraid of, are you scared to ask, and frightened of the unknown

People are afraid of many things. They are scared to ask what they don't know; nervous about starting something new or anxious of what others might think of them. There are those who are frightened of flying, of heights, of the unknown or being in the dark.

Being scared is not inborn. You developed your fears through time. Some things happened that you didn't like or did not work and you attached fearful thoughts to them. You keep them in your memory bank and create your internal reality.

So when you see or hear something that act as stimulus, your emotions are triggered. You'll go back to your memory and will feel disturbed by the thoughts. You would do anything to avoid taking action even if it provides a chance of personal growth and improvement in your life.

"Who is more foolish, the child afraid of the dark or the man afraid of the light." - Maurice Freehill

Make a firm decision.

To become more daring is only a decision away. Make a firm resolution to change the way you think, feel and behave. Acknowledge that what has happened in the past does not have to repeat itself. Realize that not everything you hear or read is true and accurate.

Change your internal reality.

What you think is true is your reality. To change your external experience, change the way you believe, think and focus internally. You frighten yourself with pictures that would lead to falling, failing and being disappointed.

If you entertain the fearful images and thoughts, your feelings will blow up. Your focus of attention is in the wrong direction and you must shift it.

Your fear is linked to a pain that may have happened somewhere in time. You allowed it to stick. Choose encouraging visual thoughts and attach strong feelings to override your painful memories. Start imagining positive outcomes and visualize the image of yourself as a daring person.

Try subliminal messages to help you reprogram your mind for change, the easier and faster way.

Act upon the thing that you are afraid to do.

Once you have enough information, act upon it. Your actions are powerful approach to change your beliefs and push yourself to overcome your timidity. Push all negativity aside. There is no guarantee that you will succeed but hesitating and procrastinating will make you more terrified.

Continue to do the right things and taking positive actions. Keep on until you no longer feel scared and have rebuilt your self confidence.

Listen to your inner dialogs.

What do you say to yourself when you feel nervous? Notice the comments and mental arguments that are going on within. It is your internal noise that is trying to protect you and maintain your fearful thoughts.

Have conversations with yourself and ask why it has to feel so insecure. Stand up to your internal noise. You have to influence it to change the untruth that is holding you back.

Try subliminal messages to help you reprogram your mind for change, the easier and faster way.

Emulate the bold.

It is your limited knowledge that scares you. You are unsure if what you are going to do is going to work. You have to learn as much as you can outside your knowledge and experience.

Find people who have the courage to do what you fear. Hang around them and learn their strategies. Copy them and act boldly. By gathering the information that you need and studying people and yourself, you will figure out the ways to break free and change.

"You must be strong now. You must never give up. And when people make you cry and you are afraid of the dark, don't forget the light is always there." - Author Unknown

How to Improve Your Happiness - A Beginner's Guide

Happiness studies is a growing field of study in the area of the human and social sciences. This article helps you to incorporate some of these findings into your everyday life and so increase your level of happiness.

Think long term

One of the biggest causes of unhappiness is the pursuit of short term happiness. This is a simple truth that is often not appreciated by people: i.e. "I do everything I can to make myself happy so why am I so miserable?" There is a always a quick route to happiness that we can take. For some this might include skipping work, eating fast food, dropping household chores and going for a drink. The problem with short term strategies is that this is just what they are: 'short term'. They also lack the depth of true fulfillment and can additionally sabotage your long term feelings of well-being. So the first thing to come to terms with in improving your happiness is distinguishing between the short and long term. Take a look at what you do to make yourself feel good and ask yourself whether these things help or hinder your long term happiness.

Exercise and rest

One of the issues to appreciate when looking at happiness levels is how much your physical state contributes to your emotional and psychological well-being. There are physiological reasons why exercise promotes happiness, such as the release of endorphins in the brain. There is also the simple and pragmatic truth that if you are fit you are much better at handling stress. Exercise and rest are also important for getting good sleep at night; and sleep is important, not only for rejuvenating oneself but also because when we are sleep-deprived it's all too easy to get problems out of proportion - and this can easily bring us down.

Life coaches often report that there are two types of people: those who are good at exercise and those who are good at rest. The former tend to push themselves too hard and the latter don't push hard enough. If you can master the balance between the two then you have taken a significant step towards greater happiness.

Discover your place in the world

Human beings are social animals. It is important for us to have a sense of belonging whether this be to a community, a tribe or one's family. Zoologists have shown that when chimpanzees - our nearest relatives - are deprived of social contact they experience depression, listlessness and a tendency to self-harm. When they are returned to their tribe these symptoms subside. Experimenters have also shown that chimps experience anxiety when there is uncertainty about exactly where they belong in the social hierarchy. The next step then in improving happiness is to pay attention to your place in the world. Do you fit in at work for instance? It may be a great job but do you have a feeling of community with your colleagues? Do you have a family or group of friends you could spend more time with? Are your relationships healthy? Is there any unfinished business between you and a member of your family?

Do what you love

This one seems like a 'head-slapping' obvious one but you would be surprised how many people don't get round to doing what they really love doing. There are 8,760 hours in every year but we often don't find the time to go fishing, get a massage or simply take a walk. We wouldn't treat our dog like that, so why deprive ourselves? This stuff is really important because if you don't give yourself 'me time' then you don't recharge, and if you don't recharge you don't use your time effectively. Of course there is the issue for some of "I don't know what I love." The answer to that is that finding out can be a lot of fun and a bit of an adventure. Just remember to be honest with yourself and not try to do things you think you ought to love because your friends, family or colleagues do; or because you think these activities suit who you think you are - but really aren't! Just stick to the things that bring you genuine peace and joy.

Be compassionate

The Dalai Lama once said "If you want to make other people happy, be compassionate. If you want to make yourself happy, be compassionate." What he means is that caring for other people actually brings you happiness. The reason this works may simply be that we are social animals, hard-wired to look out for one another, and our programming is such that doing this gives us a sense of well-being. Or it may be as the Dalai Lama and other gurus would suggest is something to do with the deep spiritual meaning in loving one's fellow human beings. Either way it has been shown in surveys of human behavior that those who score highly in caring for others also rate above average in levels of well-being. So what are you waiting for: be selfish and look out for others!

Eliminate what makes you unhappy -

In a recent research by a Cambridge University professor it was found that there are three over-riding causes of unhappiness. These are:

Hanging out with the wrong people It seems who we mix with bears heavily on how we feel. It's not just kids that can hang out with a bad crowd: we can all do it. Other people's world view can have a significant influence on our own feelings. If you mix with people who have a negative attitude about life, themselves or you, this is bound on some level to bring you down. Spending time with people because they're cool rather than because you care about each other is a bad choice.
Following the wrong path in life The correlation between people reporting that their life is heading in the wrong direction and feeling depressed is very strong. Feeling you are moving towards your destiny and purpose in life is very important; even if it is at a snail's pace. The opposite of this is to feel out of control or even worthless. The key here is that it's not about how fast you're moving or even whether you will arrive; it's more about just taking the journey.
Moving at a self damaging pace It is a particular phenomenon of the modern age that people push themselves hard to achieve goals. The consequent harm of this can be seen in ill health, particularly high levels of stress; in a sense of inner disquiet rather than peace; and in our relationships. So our final tip in this guide to happiness is to take a serious look at the pace of your life and to ask yourself whether this may be doing you some harm. Question whether it's worth it and if you maybe could improve your happiness by pressing on the brakes a little.

Physical appearance and outward look counts if you want to make better first impression

The importance of physical appearance shouldn't be refuted. It has a big influence on how people react to you especially if you want to give a good first impression. People have lower opinions toward you if you portray yourself as someone who puts little attention to how you look.

Whether you agree or otherwise, you know that people put emphasis on looks. They relate to you based on their frames of references and perceptions. Although you are not going for a popularity contest out there, how you present yourself counts.

You don't have to look like supermodels and put on a guise. Wearing a decent outfit and a smile together with an appropriate face expression and a good personality gives you a better chance of getting the job or an opportunity for something. It may sound unfair but it is necessary if you want to move ahead and experience more personal success and develop better relationships.

"A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks" - Charles Gordy

Take care of your body.

Your body is your tool and asset. Taking care of your body means recognizing your natural physique and adjusting it so that you are neither too thin nor overweight. Taking regular exercise is the best way to keep fit and toned. When you like how you look, you will feel good. When you add that with the proper dress, it will positively affect your esteem and performances.

Personal hygiene.

It's important to smell good too. You wouldn't want your bad breath or body odor to turn off anyone, would you? Shower regularly, put on clean clothes and socks. If you want to maintain your facial hair, keep it well trimmed. Women should try to avoid too much make up. Yes, you want to impress and look attractive but don't overdo it.

Put a smile on your face.

Wear a smile even when you don't feel like it. It makes you and others feel better. When you give a smile, you will almost always receive back.

Watch your language and manners.

When you dress well, have sufficient esteem, and conduct yourself appropriately, you enhance your personality. This includes using the correct language when you speak. Your attractive demeanor will draw others to you and you will have better chances of success. A professional image builds credibility and provides you the opportunity to display your knowledge and expertise to gain greater influence.

Improve your self image.

Your self image is not how others see you. It's how you see yourself in your mind. If your self image is low, you will still feel unpretty and unattractive even if you are wearing the most expensive outfit, put on an updated and new look on your hair and done up your face. If you have this problem, you must work on improving your mental image.

Have a considerable amount of self esteem.

Dr. Joyce Brothers quoted that the single most critical factor in self esteem is physical appearance. This means if you look good your esteem is good. Having a considerable amount of self esteem gives you the confidence, self assurance and self respect. It shows in your demeanor; the way you walk, talk and carry yourself.

Easy Ways to Really Improve Your Personal Trainer Business

Sometimes you spend so much time in your business that you forget to take the time to actually build and improve your business. Always keep in mind that your business doesn't grow itself and personal training clients tend to have a low retention rate. To increase your retention rate you need to look over some of the tips I've outlined below to see if you can apply them to your business.

First, a common mistake that personal trainers make is trying to do brand based advertising. Attempting to brand yourself for personal training does not work unless you are a celebrity trainer. Trying to market yourself as "Get Fit" training or using some catchphrase or "brand" name is not going to pull people in. You need to focus on why you are the trainer they need to be working with, not simply getting people to recognize your name. Yeah, it's awesome if they recognize a name, but honestly, most of the new clients that have come into my business were responding to ads about how successful my clients were--and the ads often don't even have my company name in them! People in this industry respond to how they see your business as being able to help them, not how popular your name is.

To make sure your training business is growing make sure that you are doing your own marketing, or at least managing the marketing. You don't want other people running your marketing who don't know your business or the best way to market in the fitness industry. Obviously, if you're monitoring it our have a system in place that is fine, but you don't want to just outsource your marketing to any marketing company. Traditional marketing often isn't effective in this industry, so make sure you spend time researching online about fitness marketing and how to be successful marketing your fitness business.

Finally, don't try and be too serious at your workouts. A lot of trainers I know try and act all super professional because they think it makes them look better with the client, but honestly it makes them look kind of boring. I'm not saying be unprofessional, I'm saying you need to be a fun trainer. People don't want to show up to workouts, that's just the way it is, but if you are making sure you're a fun person to be around and bringing energy to the workouts then your clients will want to stay. Once you have a client feeling positive about themselves when they are around you and associating being at the gym working out with having a great time then you are sure to keep your client and definitely get referrals.

Chris McCombs owns a personal training business At one time Chris was 143 pounds overweight at which point he looked in the mirror and decided to do something about it. Chris lost the weight and started his own fitness business Positively Fit Inc. which helps people who are just starting personal training and those who have work out for a long time.

Is Your Income A Direct Reflection Of Your Personal Growth?

The relevant link between self-improvement or personal growth and wealth have long since been established. However, while many people are still trying to figure out the correlation between the two, the ones who have embraced the concept continues to prosper beyond their wildest dreams.

Now I know that some of you might not agree with that statement. I know there are a few of you who might have accumulated some good income within a short period of time and feel confident that you have beaten the odds, but watch out! If you don't spend some time on your personal growth and development while lavishing in that new found wealth, you'll loose it.

Jim Rohn puts it this way, "What you become directly influences what you get." .

We are hearing a lot about the "Law Of Attraction" nowadays and some people might be wondering why this work for some and it doesn't work for others. Now this might burst your bubble here, but guess what, it works for everybody. Hold on! Before you explode, let me explain.

At some point in our lives we all ask the universe for something. The medium through which we ask varies depending on our beliefs, religious background, or what part of the world we are located in. This has no bearing on the answer that we are expecting. Whenever we ask - the universe answers. So why some people enjoy the exhilaration of receiving while others don't?

Its all about the receiving. You might say that you would not have asked for something unless you wanted it, right? You want it but are you prepared to receive it? Are you in a state of readiness to receive it?

The universe has everything in place to satisfy all of our needs abundantly. There is no shortness of wealth. Whether it be good health, happiness, joy, peace of mind, material wealth etc., there is enough to go around. The problem is that all of us are asking, but only some of us are ready to receive.

Personal growth and development is the foundation of our achievements in life. This is what prepares us to receive, and when we understand the power of this we will embrace and more appreciate the value of what we receive.

For those of you who continue to skip from one program to the other wondering why you can't achieve success, the answer might lie in your reluctance to change, to grow as a person. Just think about it, when was the last time you read a good book, or listen to some of those motivational CDs that sit in the corner gathering dust, or try to learn something new and uplifting?

Personal growth is a major part of the life process and if we refrain from paying close attention to that, we will end up being miserable. We will be "wondering what if, or why me" and we will definitely fall short of living a good life, which is the ultimate goal that we all strive for.

Start today to make the changes necessary for your future growth and development and watch your life start to take on a new meaning.

Home Grown - Your Personal Growth!

Personal Growth can help change mindset, self limiting beliefs and can be a great enabler to personal development, mentoring, coaching and growth.

If you suffer from lack of self esteem or you are a quiet, shy person, who would love to be more confident around people, then by daily doses of personal development can change your outlook on life, give you more self confidence, producing a high self esteem and an air of certainty around you. If however, you want to improve your leadership skills, or you wish to project a more confident self image, again, personal development will help you to shine!  One your road to personal growth and self development you will find that you begin to attract like minded positive people, and that others in your circle of friends and family will begin to look at your differently in a respectful type of way.

So what kind of things can you do to help you personally change your mindset and your attitude?

If you love reading then a good place to start is AMAZON.com and go to books, and within the business books section you will find great classics such as JIM ROHN, Twelve Pillars, Paulo Coelho - The Alchemist, are some to name a few. There are different types of self help, or personal development books. There are factual books where you can read about techniques and how to apply them.  There are books that tell a story, but have a deep underlying message and lessons which you learn through examples being brought to life through the story being told.

If you don't have time for reading, most of these books now come in either audio CD format, or as a download through I-tunes. suy

What do you do next to help you to grow?

- It is important to make time for personal growth. You can listen to CD's or your music player in the car, at the gym, doing the housework - use up that 'dead time' constructively.

- Take time out to actually ACTION what you have learnt or are learning.

- Take good notes whilst you are reading through your book, or if you are listening to your audio book.

- If you are unable to take notes, then possibly playing the CD or music player over and over again to ensure some if not all of what is being told is sinking in.

Finally: TAKE ACTION - for things to change, you have to change

Personal growth like personal development is a process that brings personal change and progress

Personal growth is a process that produces personal change and progress. And it starts from within you.

Personal development will happen when you make a firm decision to...

bullet2 Understand yourself

bullet2 Improve your awareness

bullet2 Work on your attitude

bullet2 Believe in yourself and your potentials

bullet2 Develop your skills

bullet2 Set your goals

bullet2 Begin with the end in mind

You need to have a self improvement plan and a system for your personal development and growth. And then take consistent and continuous actions.

When you know in which direction you want to go, you will work on yourself, do all that you can and do your best. This is self help. And you will change and grow.

Ask yourself these few questions.

bullet2 Do you like where you are and what you have become?

bullet2 Have you ever wished that your life was better?

bullet2 Is your relationships with others working the way you want it to be?

bullet2 Are you producing the results that you want?

bullet2 What makes you feel good?

bullet2 Why do you do what you do?

bullet2 What have you been telling yourself about you?

bullet2 How do you go from here to where you want to be?

When you begin to ask yourself these types of questions, you will start looking for the answers within you. And your journey to heal, improve and grow will begin.

You can choose to grow, learn, become the person you aspire, and master your life. Or you can choose to stagnate, to hesitate, and remain fearful and doubtful and live in mediocrity.

You are responsible for your improvements and success as well as your frustrations and lack of progress.

I'll assist you the best I can in helping you find the answers. These are my point of views.

You decide what's useful. It's up to you to choose what's valuable and important.

It is your choice.

Does Insecurity Halt Your Personal Growth?

Everyone big or small, old or young would love to feel a

sense of security and well being all of the time in such a

seemingly short life.

However, through life's trials of inevitable ups and downs,

we sometimes believe that our self worth is supposed to be

sub-par, as if the world saw that if we were strong inside, it

wouldn't function properly. The earth's axis would go into

some unhealthy tilt and its rotation would cease.

We wouldn't be serving ourself or anyone else correctly if

this were true, so why are we content to become less than

what we can be and settle with our comfortable insecurities

that we know so well?

Most people, if you were to strip them of everything they

have inside, are merely searching for love and meaning in

their lives; but to some, it is a never-ending, self-fulfilling

prophecy of dead ends and wrong routes taken.

You are always going to be your worst enemy and

suppresser in seeking your personal nirvana!

If you were your biggest fan, you would clone yourself and

when you stepped up to bat, there would be 75,000

screaming you's cheering for your success. Insecure people

take the pleasure in feeding a massive dose of negativity

inwards and therefore would love to stay as a boo bird,

hoping for your own failure.

After all, isn't that what society would love to have happen

to you? Stay down with the masses and wallow in the mire

with them, because misery loves company.

You were probably taught by society or learned this

yourself, but certainly, you were not born with this

affliction.

Have you ever heard that it's all in your head? Ninety nine

percent of your success whether professionally, personally,

or athletically comes from inside you and your physical

attributes are merely that, tangible aspects of you and thats

all.

If you were given ninety health filled days to live, how

would you live them? Would you throw everything at the

wall, put the petal to the metal, dive the deepest blue sea,

scale the highest peak?

Although, you could live truthfully, confident, secure in

yourself, and show all the beautiful colors that you came

into this world with, those colors that have been skewed

and faded for such a long time.

This mindset of not taking today or tomorrow for granted

and knowing that the end could happen at anytime; and

therefore living this gift of life as honest, not only to

yourself, but others, is extremely powerful.

The truth will set you free!

Insecurity cages you in a personal prison when you could

be sailing behind warm winds towards a brighter and more

gratifying future. It rents space in your mind and asks you

to pay its bills. It impedes your personal progression and

tells you that you can't, when you can.

Regretfully, this is an internal force, not something external

that you can run far away from and never see again.

Looking back, do you see your past and at some points

feeling so insecure in some situations that the required task

couldn't be completed because you felt inept?

Were you so insecure within that you had to feel secure by

controlling others? If you were secure, you would know

that your security is about letting go and having faith in

your abilities no matter what situation your in.

Being secure is not "I'm better than you and I'm going to

constantly show you;" to the contrary, it is an inner

confidence that needn't be exuded, but known within,

regardless of a checkered or questionable past.

Remember, you are not on earth a very long time in the

whole scheme of things, so wouldn't it be better to get

the best you can out of yourself instead of locking

everything up in an internal safe of insecurities?
