As children we are very suggestible and so this simple statement could have a profound impact on your personal belief system. You spend more effort and time playing football and less time on improving your spelling abilities, because 'you were doomed to be terrible at it anyway'.
Being a grown up now, you may look back at it and realize that you couldn't actually be so bad at spelling. If you hadn't got discouraged early as a child, your spelling would have surely improved and matched up with everyone else.
Six Steps To Improvement
In order to learn and perfect our skills in any area these steps need to be in place:
1. WANT (want to be better, improve in something or another)
2. ACQUIRE (learn new knowledge, strategies, techniques, skills)
3. DO (actually go & practice the new learning)
4. HEAR (get feedback about your performance/knowledge)
5. IMPLEMENT (accept and implement the feedback)
6. IMPROVE (finally you improve)
Bringing Focus To Important Areas
To be more successful, to achieve more and become more we need to know specifically to which area we need to bring our focus in order for the improvement to actually happen. To focus is much easier once the light gets switched on. The small light coming from the end of the tunnel only represents a little part of what's really out there. Once the light goes on, the tunnel of our opportunities gets wider and becomes more accessible.
The best thing someone can do for our success and development is NOT to hold our hand and walk in front of us. The best they can do is to shine a beacon of soft loving light on our weak spots, giving us an opportunity to be aware of them and build their strength.
My Definition Of A True Friend
"True friend is one who pushes us through the limits of our mindset and out of our comfort zone. With love and trust they encourage us to grow. They believe in our abilities more than we usually believe in ourselves."
